Full Motion Diagrams with velocity, delta v, and acceleration vectors
Example 1 (Figure 1-19 from Knight, Physics for Scientists and Engineers)
Connect the dots in the motion diagram with velocity vectors to show the direction of motion and whether velcolity is increasing, decreasing, or constant. Construct the acceleration vector from the vector Delta v as we did in class.
Since the vector a = ( Delta v / Delta t) and Delta t is
positive,
the acceleration vector points in the same direction as Delta
v.
