PHZ 4703

This is the second semester of a two-semester sequence intended to discuss the applications of physics concepts (covered in College Physics) to biological systems and in medical applications. The course will cover the physics of hearing, sight, and the nervous system, as well as the physical basis of some common biomedical applications, particularly various types of medical imaging. We will discuss electricity & magnetism in biological systems, classical and quantum applications in medical diagnostics, and the physics of different medical imaging techniques such as optical and electron microscopy, ultrasound, X-ray, CT scan, MRI, radionuclide imaging. The physics prerequisites for this course are PHY2053C, 2054C or PHY2048C, 2049C.
